12 year old Penny was surrendered to TSBHR after her owner could no longer care for her. She hadn't been to the vet in over 3 years at that time and she was suffering from painful ear infections. After many vet visits Penny's ears were healed and she was ready for adoption, but Penny had different plans. Penny can be a handful and was a returned adoption twice because she is a resource guarder and has bitten. While waiting for the perfect adopter Penny's foster mom discovered that Penny had a lump in her mammary chain. She was sent in for surgery and the biopsy showed that Penny had cancer. The Dr. removed all of the surrounding tissue but Penny's attitude made her not fit adoption. Penny has been a forever foster for a very long time. She lives with the president of Tri State and has for the last 4 years. Penny has survived cancer not once but twice, each time with the mass being completely removed. Penny now has congestive heart failure. She takes daily medication to manage it and she is not ready to leave for the rainbow bridge. Dogs like Penny are hard cases. They can not go up for adoption yet deserve a chance for a normal life. Tri State has committed to Penny and will be sure that she is comfortable and happy for the rest of her life.
