Barney, aka "The Barnilator" was rescued by Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, Inc. when he was 11 years old, and then adopted by the Berthelot family of Pennsylvania. He spent his previous years outside as a stud dog for a "backyard breeder" chained to his dog house in horrible conditions. He was a happy, much loved member of the Berthelot pack. Barney appeared on the Today Show while he was still waiting for his "Forever Home." He appeared with noted pet behaviorist, Warren Eckstein, and was quite a hit with everyone at NBC.

Barney was a big star of the Boardwaddle, many recall his appearance in his biker leather for BoardWaddle 2000. He was exceptional at giving the, "Look" for soliciting pledges for his homeless friends and worked all year to help them. Besides, everybody just loved him...because he was Barney. Thats Barney's mom Debbie Berthelot next to him.

Despite his best intentions, Barney went to the bridge during his reign, at the age of 15. He thought BoardWaddle 02 was a big birthday party for him....and he was right. He is sadly missed and joined his 'sisters' Maggie and Shirley at the bridge. His girls, Sophie, Jingle will waddle in their memory, along with new Berthelot Tri-State adoptees, Mabel and Uncle Roy.
